Mow? Do not mow?

Grass cutting in urban areas has divided residents into supporters and opponents for years. Some call to complain to the office that the grass is too tall, others grumble that yet another green avenue has been removed and, in the process, the natural
an environment for bees and other insects.
According to Prof. Ewa Skutnik a distinction should be made between lawn cutting and flower meadows and wild plants.
– Mowing grass is very useful, without mowing there will be no lawn,” explains Prof. Ewa Skutnik, a long-term employee of the Department of Ornamental Plants at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences..
– It is mowing that keeps a lawn beautifully maintained and has a “good root system”.
– In recent years, we have increasingly been converting lawns into flower meadows to allow various insects to establish themselves in the city,” admitted Ewa Skutnik.
– Flower meadows with annual species need to be mown once a year at the end of summer, whereas flower meadows with perennial species need to be mown twice – once in June/July and once in September.
